A wheelbase is only useful when the cockpit can hold it, the simulator supports it and the available wheels fit the cars you drive. Peak torque matters, but so do mounting, software, quick-release design, platform support and the way force feedback is configured.
Decide before buying
Start with platform, mounting, room and the driving problem you want to solve. The product list becomes shorter once those limits are clear.
Confirm PC, Xbox or PlayStation support for the exact base, wheel and connection path. Console compatibility is often tied to a specific licensed component.
A stronger base can reveal flex in a desk, wheel stand or cockpit. Check the manufacturer mounting pattern and the structure that must absorb the load.
More torque creates headroom, but the useful setting depends on driver comfort, wheel diameter, car type, rig stiffness and force-feedback tuning.
Wheel rims, button plates, shifters, quick releases and future accessories can matter more over time than the base alone.
In a direct-drive system the motor is coupled to the steering shaft. That can deliver a faster and more detailed response than a design that transfers force through gears or belts, but it also increases the importance of safe mounting, sensible torque limits and correct software settings.
Torque is rotational force, usually stated in newton-metres. It describes available strength, not automatically fidelity, smoothness, thermal consistency or useful detail. Compare sustained behavior, software control, clipping headroom and the torque you can use comfortably in the cars you drive.
A larger or heavier wheel generally requires more effort from the base to create the same sensation at the hands. Formula-style rims, round road-car wheels and large rally or truck wheels also create different control, button and hand-position requirements.
Confirm front, side or bottom mounting support, required brackets, bolt length and emergency-stop recommendations. Check how the quick release handles play, electrical connection and wheel changes before committing to an ecosystem.
Calibrate steering range and center in the simulator, then save a known-good profile. Firmware tools can alter force-feedback filters, rotation, damping and pedal connections, so record settings before major updates and change one variable at a time.
